What always brings me back to blogging?

24 Mar 2009

Of course, bowling.

So I’ve been bowling for several years now and go through serious peaks and valleys. Over the course of this year’s season, my bowling has been pretty erratic, where I’ve had long stretches having a hard time even hitting my falling average of around 175. I don’t think I hit my all-time league low of 114 or something, but there were nights when it was close.

The past two weeks have been decent. While I don’t remember all of my scores from last week, I think it was 173-256-205 or something. This week, I had a 193-215-225. A couple of things really sucked: opening the 10th in the first game and starting the third game with 6 strikes, then an open.

We’ll see if I’m peaking too soon before my tournament in a couple of weeks.

I have a couple of things that I have going on that I need to blog about… blood work tomorrow, monitoring my calories, road trip. We’ll see how many of those stick in future posts. :)

bowling is fun again!

things are always more fun when you’re doing well. softball is kick ass when i go 5-for-5 and make a few plays in the field. it pretty much sucks when i go oh-fer with some soft grounders to the shortstop and i drop some balls in the infield. likewise, vegas is awesome when it feels impossible for the dice to land on that bad number, and it’s horrible when it lands on that number every other time.

which brings us to bowling. first i’ll give props where deserved: shawn went in this season with a 198 average and our calculations showed he had to average 206 over the three games tonight to get his average up to 200. i can’t remember exactly what he ended up with, but it was something around a 690 series. pretty damn impressive. wait, now this just makes my games seem less good. yeah, pretty much a letdown. i had a 191-221-214 series or some such. i don’t even know what that adds up to, but it’s less than 690.

nevermind, bad story. stupid shawn stealing my thunder in my own post.

bowling again and conservation of greatness

17 Sep 2008

so tonight was the first night of bowling in our new fall season. i didn’t bowl the summer league because, well, i didn’t. i haven’t touched my bowling ball in months and was pretty nervous going in tonight fearing my right forearm falling off before the first game ended. i talked to joe for inspiration who bowled exactly one game for our team and rolled a 707 series. he said that’s what he was able to do when he hadn’t bowled for a long time.

so, i had a few warmups and it didn’t feel that great, but it wasn’t that bad. i started the game with a strike, nine-spare, strike, strike, 9-spare, then a bunch of strikes. ended up with a cool 259 and won the pot. :) then i blew the second game, but punched out in the 10th and won that pot (172 game). and then i sucked in the third with a 170. not bad for a first week, but it just screams of my inconsistency. or that my average should really be 171.
